Dentist, Therapy

Dentist, Therapy
February 28, 2007
Well, it started off a pretty good day. Bailey's first dentist appt. I knew we would get lectured but it went pretty well. Her new teeth are in really good shape considering the circumstances. Her dentist cautioned about the type of formula she is on and the fact that she is pretty much on a liquid diet makes her more suspectible to cavities. So we will need to brush more frequently and make sure to keep a closer eye on the beginnings of any cavities. We are lucky that she is such a late teether but they said her lack of solids could also be contributing to her late and slow teething progress. Her molars are ready to come in but she only has one lateral in so far. So we need to watch for her teething development and if the laterals are still not showing through by the next appt, they will take xrays to determine what is going on. So we will go back in 6 months for a follow up unless something comes up before then. She did get upset while they were checking her teeth and started refluxing and gagging but was able to keep everything down successfully.

Then onto therapy. This session went pretty well, even though she didn't eat anything. I feel we made progress. She showed off more of her bad habits that she has developed of throwing food on the floor constantly. And Shawna worked very well with her and showing her how to keep food on the table. I could tell that flowed very well in the evening because at dinner, no food was thrown from the table as in meals past. Bailey also did well with feeding Dora and showing her personal interest in foods. We are holding off on future therapies until after the evaluation on Monday and the ph probe Wednesday.

Tonight during dinner, Bailey did very well eating some mac n cheese, about 1-2 tbsps. However, she gagged towards the end and the whole meal came back up. Later she was still hungry and tried eating her new Dora cereal that we exposed her to during therapy. She was able to eat another 1-2tbsps of it but started coughing and gagging a little so we had to take a break. She continued trying to eat more later in the evening, but kept coughing and seemed to struggle with it too much.

She did well on formula today...too well. We are supposed to limit her intake but with the vomiting and hunger, I felt she needed the extra calories. I don't think it's fair to starve her when she tried to eat the solids but couldn't.
