Therapy and CDSA update
July 10, 2007
Okay first, I don't know why I cannot leave titles anymore. It's a good thing I have always duplicated the title! :)
Bailey had her therapy today. Absolutely no crying, that is terrific! However, she didn't eat a single thing. We finally finally Finally after lots of coaxing and bribing did get her to play around with the food a little bit but that was as far as we got today. Her CDSA stopped by to check in and see how things were going. She was not pleased at all with Bailey's lack of eating. I let Bailey go 8 hours yesterday (well I guess it's technically Wednesday now so that would be Monday) without a bottle. She was hungry, I could hear her tummy growling. I offered yogurt, pudding, nothing interested her. I finally made up a bottle and gave it to her and she drinks it all. I just don't think she is motivated by hunger sometimes. Is it her being stubborn? Why doesn't she like food like any other normal human? So she only had 15 ounces of formula yesterday, a slice of cheese and a pack of gummies. Certainly not enough to sustain her, she should have been starving today. I offered her toaster strudel this morning, she turned it down. I offered a bottle later, she sucked it down. About 30 minutes after therapy, she did eat a few nibbles of a slice of cheese and then had another bottle before we went out to run some errands. For dinner, she played with some french fries and hushpuppies. Then she ate a cup of Dora yogurt and was done. Today she had 20 ounces of formula. Still much less than the 24 she needs to meet her daily nutritional requirements. I would love to get another weight check. I may ask to get one later this week if this continues.
Speech. Okay, this topic comes up and I tell them both she is doing so much better now and I can tell that little language explosion is happening and she is really trying to communicate more with us now. I know her language and we can communicate well enough. However they are concerned she may still be much further behind than her peers. She needs a speech evaluation within the next 30 days. Her SLP will take care of that for us. The additional speech therapy could work in our favor though as it can help Bailey gain a relationship with her SLP better since she will have twice the exposure with her. And one of those days will be non food related, Bailey's favorite!
