Therapy Consult
Today was Bailey's much anticipated therapy consultation with the pediatric therapists through WFUBMC. We met with Holly and an intern by request of Shawna, Bradley's former therapist. We talked briefly about all of my concerns and then watched Bailey try some of her familiar foods. We agreed with her diagnosis of the oral aversions including taste, texture and feeding aversions. However, she did not have any gagging or choking episodes during the evaluation. Bailey ate 4-5 Froot Loops, about 4 Gerber puffs, and drank a small sip from their honey bear straw cup when it was squirted into her mouth. She has never wanted the Gerbers puffs at home so that was a surprise. I bought her in very hungry though! She may have dysphagia, a swallowing disorder. However with her lack of variety, it was hard to tell at this appointment. We will not do any testing at this point unless a concern comes up later. We talked briefly about her continued spitting up but it appears to be nothing serious or it would have been much more frequent than it is currently. She will begin therapy as soon as there is an opening. She weighs 22.8 pounds (just over 50th) and is 29.5 (just under 50%) inches tall. Weight for height is 75%. It appears that she is thriving despite her limited intake.
