Reflux

Update on Bailey's reflux and feeding challenges:

I was able to feed her twice yesterday. At lunch she had a few bites of pears. At dinner, she had almost 1/2 jar of applesauce and then started gagging, so we stopped the feeding immediately. She did not take her bottles well at all yesterday so she was up last night for a bottle to supplement. Obviously her reflux is flaring up right now.

To summarize, she is on prevacid 7.5mg (1/2 solutab) twice a day. Since she cannot take it without gagging until she vomits, I dissolve it in water and put it in a 2 ounce bottle of formula. She also gets 1ml of Cimetidine twice in the evenings mixed in her bottle the same way. We tried giving this straight and she also gagged until she vomited on it. I add 1 heaping tsp of rice cereal per 2 ounces of formula to both of her evenings bottles. She prefers the extra thickness at night but not during the day. Back in November I was cautioned that Bradley's conditions were hereditary and Bailey had a 25% chance of having the same problems. Bradley was diagnosed with apraxia, dysphagia, and oral aversions (due to complications from reflux). Hopefully with me being home with Bailey, we can better monitor her and prevent her from being as bad as Bradley was.
